Hollow Shape, Silent Edge

Meaning of the Title The title refers to the central dark mass unfolding as a hollow form — irregular, silent, suggestive of a mouth, an organ, or a wound. “Silent Edge” points to the sharp border between black and light, where a near-physical stillness settles. The image seems to withhold sound within its contrast. ⸻ Poetic Description A broad black shape unfolds like an unspoken word. On the right: vertical scratches, as if etched into a surface. Above the darkness: a veil of white, part liquid, part frozen. Stillness hangs in the middle, between fracture and form. ⸻ Interpretation This work asks what the limit of image is. The shape is not a symbol but a presence — a bodily void bordered by traces of movement. The rhythmic marks on the right suggest repetition, as if something has passed along this wall again and again. What remains is absence given contour. ⸻ Technique Monochrome digital composition built from scanned or photographed liquid textures — possibly ink, wax, or emulsion. The vertical and horizontal streaks suggest a physical dragging process, later enhanced digitally for contrast and clarity. Light and shadow are distributed irregularly, giving the image both plasticity and abstraction. ⸻ Art Historical Context The work echoes art informel of the early postwar era, translated into digital presence. It also aligns with concrete photography and materialist minimalism: form is produced by matter itself, not imposed composition. The image is both object and surface. ⸻ Aesthetic Reflection Beauty resides in the undecided form: it is unclear whether we see something emerging or dissolving. The balance between light and darkness is grim yet precise. The black zone attracts like a glowing depth; the white around it is not illumination but tension. ⸻ Curatorial Rationale Hollow Shape, Silent Edge is a pivotal piece in this series. It signals a shift from resonant color to radical reduction. The arched emptiness and its grainy edge create a visual pause without relaxation — a suspended image. Within Minimal Beauty – Part 2, it acts as a dark anchor, both silent and tense. This image holds a needed weight within the whole.
